SU TROBASCIU
“Within every tapestry live the dreams of women..”
In Sardinia, weaving was never just craft. It was a woman’s voice, her rite of passage, her dowry, her dreams.
At Su Trobasciu, seven women carry this legacy forward, transforming ancestral threads into works of resilience and beauty. Every rug, tapestry, and woven piece is more than tradition preserved: it is the power of women creating, imagining and leaving their mark on the world
THREADS OF MEMORY
A living archive of feminine craft.
Founded in 1978, Su Trobasciu is more than a weaving collective: it is a living archive of Sardinia’s feminine creativity.
In Mogoro, weaving was once every girl’s passage into womanhood. At 14, she would begin with grain sacks, move on to linens and blankets, and eventually create her dowry — the woven treasures that would accompany her into married life. The most symbolic piece was the bisaccia, a ceremonial bag imagined for a future husband she had not yet met. Only after completing the dowry could she turn to the tapestry, a space of freedom and expression where, as Wilda recalls, “there are women’s dreams in the threads.”
Su Trobasciu was born to protect this heritage and give it new life.
Today, Cecilia, Wilda, Lucina, Rosalba, Pina, Rosanna, and Iosella continue the lineage, practicing ancestral techniques such as a bagas and pibiones to create arazzi, rugs, pillows, and home pieces. Each work is both memory and renewal AND a testament to resilience, beauty and the timeless power of women creating together.
