This small bowl is called a 'drop out' vessel. It is made by placing a fused glass blank over a flat mold (which has a hole in the center) and firing it in a kiln. The glass slumps down through the hole to create the vase form. This process needs to be closely monitored to get the desired shape. Once cooled, the bowl is cut off from the glass ring left behind in the process and the edges are carefully ground and polished. This is a one-of-a-kind piece that is beautiful and functional!
