I want a Hippopotamus for Christmas!  Do you?  Did you know that Gayla Peevey, the singer of that song really did receive a hippopotamus that year for Christmas?  On Christmas eve of 1953, fans had pooled together to buy a 700 pound baby hippo for Gayla, who then promptly donated it to the Oklahoma City zoo.  The name "hippopotamus" literally translates to "water horse,"  and in some areas, this is what they are called.  While this sweet little hippo will give you only smiles, hippos are known worldwide as being one of the most dangerous animals.  They can also create their own reddish colored sun screen to protect their skin.  Did you also know there is a heard of wild hippos in Colombia?  How you ask?  In 1993 Pablo Escobar was seized and some of his animals were left behind.  The 4 hippos made their way into Colombia's water ways and are now a heard of nearly 60 hippos!

This is Blossom, the sweet little hippo.  She was created specially for a client who then got to give her her perfect name. 

Each of my pieces is digitally sculpted with much care.  This hippo is completely sculpted, on all sides and the bottom, and is solid metal.  They are cast in the metal of your choice, and antiqued and polished by hand.  The metal is given a matte finish, which helps the intricate details stand out even more.  Each one is hand packed and send out from my home studio with love.  All of the metal used is 100% recycled metal, and all of the work and materials on the pendant itself are made in the USA.  This listing is for the hippo pendant cast in pewter.  I have other metals available in my shop.  If you cannot find what you are looking for just let me know and I can give you the pricing information.

As each piece I make is hand crafted and finished with care, they are all unique in their own way.  Each one may have slightly darker or lighter patina or antiquing.  Each one is a beautiful one of kind creation!

This pendant is completely solid and measures over an inch long.  It is solid metal and is quite heavy!  It is a strong and quality made piece.
